A brick calculator works out how many bricks your wall needs and the mortar to lay them. It uses standard modular bricks at about seven per square foot of single-wythe wall (the brick plus its mortar joint), and adds waste for cuts and breakage.
Order a little over — bricks vary slightly by batch, and running short mid-wall means a colour-matching headache later.
A standard modular brick with a 3/8 in joint covers about one-seventh of a square foot, so you need roughly 7 bricks per square foot of single-wythe wall. We add 10% waste and estimate mortar at about one 80 lb bag per 35 bricks.
A 200 sq ft single-wythe wall needs about 1,540 modular bricks and roughly 44 bags of mortar.
