A countertop calculator works out the surface area of your counters in square feet — how stone, laminate and solid surface are priced — plus the front-edge length and any backsplash. Enter the run length and depth and it sizes the job for quotes or a DIY material order.
Countertops are quoted by the square foot installed, but the edge profile, backsplash, sink cut-outs and seams add to it. This gives you the area and edge to start from, and the product links cover DIY butcher block and laminate.
Area = length × depth ÷ 144 (square feet). Front-edge length = run length. Backsplash = length × backsplash height. Stone is priced per square foot installed with a slab minimum and extras for edge profiles, cut-outs and seams — so this is the base figure, not the full quote.
A 120 in run at 25 in deep is about 20.8 sq ft, with 10 ft of front edge and ~3.3 sq ft of 4 in backsplash.
